I contacted LG support, and they simply gave me a canned response that "it should work." I provided them more details, so I'm awaiting their further response. I cant seem to find any info on the performance of it. It has an Intel i5 4690 CPU, and an AMD firepro w4100 workstation GPU. Just in case there is a conflict between the displayport and Thunderbolt ports as HJ_Kim mentioned above, I also unplugged the displayport cable while doing this testing, so *only* the TB port was in use. Will an AMD Firepro w4100 work for hardware transcoding I picked up a workstation PC I planned on migrating my file server to. I just can't get it to work with a usb-c to usb-c cable using the TB3 port on the monitor. Answer (1 of 3): If you’re feeling adventurous you could probably build an external Thunderbolt 3 enclosure with a power supply that can accommodate dual graphics cards. So I know the laptops support displayport alt mode just fine.
I have also tried a usb-c to displayport cable on each laptop, and that works when plugged into the displayport plug on the monitor. They see the monitor's usb hub, but no display. Update drivers with the largest database available. However, my work laptop (HP Probook 640 G5) and a brand new Lenovo Flex 5 have USB-C ports (not Thunderbolt), and they do *not* work in DP alt mode.
